How to Automatically Generate Multiple Slides with Filtered Variable Categories?

How to Automatically Generate Multiple Slides with Filtered Variable Categories?

Manually duplicating slides for different audiences, segments, or regions is one of the most repetitive and time-consuming tasks in PowerPoint-based reporting. To solve this, Chartrics offers Repeater – an advanced automation feature designed to scale your reporting with just one setup.

When to Use Repeater?

Imagine you're preparing a report on consumer preferences for soft drinks, candies, and snacks across different regions. Normally, you'd have to recreate the same slide over and over – once for each region. With Repeater, you only need to build the slide once. Then, assign the “Region” variable as a repeater, and Chartrics will automatically generate identical slides for each region – each filtered and labeled accordingly.

You can even go further by setting up multi-level repeaters, using up to three variables (e.g., Region → Age → Gender), to create a hierarchical breakdown – all without duplicating slides manually.

Benefits of Repeater Usage

With just one setup, Repeater automates the creation of filtered slides—saving you time and ensuring consistency across reports.
  • Save hours by automating regional or demographic breakdowns
  • Eliminate copy-paste errors and formatting inconsistencies
  • Scale reporting for internal or client-facing presentations with ease

How to Use Repeater in Chartrics?

Set up Repeater in just a few clicks to automate slide creation based on your data.
1. Select the slide you want to repeat
2. Go to the Chartrics tab in PowerPoint and click on Repeater
3. In the Repeater dialog box:
  • Choose a dataset from the dropdown
  • Under Variables, select up to 3 variables to segment your data (e.g., Region, Age, Gender)
  • Under Categories, choose the specific values to generate slides for
  • Under Apply to, define how filters should apply (e.g., Value, Total, Both, or Ignore)
4. (Optional) Click Merge Field to dynamically insert variable values (like “Region: West”) as slide titles
5. Click Generate to automatically produce new slides — one for each variable/category combination

*Note: To apply Repeater across multiple slides in the same presentation, set the repeater variables for each slide first, then click Generate to create them in one go.
