How to Group and Replace Variable Categories

While analyzing the data, there is often a need to group similar categories into one major category. For example, you may need to combine values for "Single" and "Divorced" into one group as "Unmarried" and show it on the chart under one label.

This article describes how you can group and replace the categories in the data set file and instantly apply them to charts.

Note* You can group and replace only the categories of dimensions.

 

Method

  1. In Chart Maker, right-click on the desired variable in the Data Pane > Group and Replace
  2. In Group and Replace dialog box, select the categories you want to group
  3. In the Group Name field, type a new name for the grouped categories > Group and Replace > Close
